Position: Support Technician

Location: Cape Town – South Africa.

Responsibilities and tasks within the IT Department:

  • Provide first-line technical support to customers via phone, email, and remote assistance.
  • Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve general business office IT problems (repair or replace parts, debugging etc.)
  • Assist customers with internet connectivity issues, including routers, modems, and Wi-Fi configuration.
  • Maintain records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule
  • Manage client Backups (remote or onsite)
  • Linux, Windows server, Microsoft Applications ( Exchange and Office 365 ) system administration experience will be an advantage
  • Install and configure software and maintain client workstations on-site
  • Diagnose general 1st line VoIP queries and general onsite VoIP phones
  • Manage Support tickets via the helpdesk and diagnose client internet queries
  • Document and escalate complex issues to higher-level support when necessary.
  • Monitor and respond to support tickets in a timely and efficient manner.
  • High-site maintenance and monitoring
  • Educate customers on best practices for internet and network usage.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ISP products, services, and industry trends.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • Own reliable transport and a valid Driver’s License are Compulsory
  • A minimum of 3 years of customer service-orientated I.T. experience or proven experience in a helpdesk or IT support role.
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting routers, modems, and other networking hardware as well as hardware and software.
  • Experience with Mikrotik and Ubiquiti Hardware, network configurations and troubleshooting (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Industry experience with Internet, Fibre, VoIP & Wireless Broadband Internet is essential.
  • IT certificate or diploma in Information Systems (A+, N+, MCSE, CompTIA A+, N+, or equivalent) are a plus.
  • A matric pass or equivalent is essential.

Working hours and remuneration:

Hours:

The working office hours are standard 08h00 to 17h00

After-hour remote support hours are 18h30 to 22h00 (Weekly rotational shifts)

Weekend Standby Remote support hours are 08h00 to 22h00 (only when queries come in or high sites are down and troubleshooting is required)

Weekends in office Support hours are every 2nd Saturday (only when required)

Position: Wireless Field Technician

Location: Cape Town – South Africa

Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Installation and Configuration: Install, configure, and optimize high-site equipment,
    including antennas, radios, and associated hardware. Ensure proper alignment and
    calibration for optimal performance.
  • Site Surveys: Conduct site surveys to assess environmental factors, signal strength, and
    network coverage. Identify potential obstacles and recommend solutions to optimize signal
    propagation.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on high-site
    equipment to prevent downtime and minimize disruptions. Diagnose and resolve hardware
    and software issues promptly.
  • Network Integration: Collaborate with network engineers and other team members to
    integrate high-site installations into the broader telecommunications network. Ensure
    seamless connectivity and interoperability.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of installation activities, including equipment
    configurations, test results, and service reports. Update documentation as needed to reflect
    changes and upgrades.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines when working at heights and
    in potentially hazardous environments. Follow best practices for equipment handling and
    personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Matric (Required)
  • Knowledge of the use of essential tools, such as spanners, sockets, drills, and other
  • operational electrical tools.
  • Computer-literate and tech-savvy
  • Experience in the WISP, networking, or telecommunications space
  • A proven experience in working on sites / in the field
  • A proven experience in multi-tasking and prioritizing different tasks
  • Drivers license is compulsory.
  • History of working at heights is compulsory
  • Prepared to be on standby / work overtime when needed.
  • Working-at-height experience
  • Certificate of competence relating to mast or fieldwork
  • Exposure to / Mikrotik / Ubiquiti and Unlicensed carrier-grade products in a previous role

To thrive in this role, you will need:

  • A diploma or degree in telecommunications, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in installing and maintaining wireless networks, preferably in a field
    technician role.
  • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting wireless equipment, such as routers, access
    points, and antennas.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve
    technical issues effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-centric approach.
    Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to different sites as needed.
